Why is This Happening
In July 2024, the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that previous legislative actions trying to undermine wage increases were unconstitutional, and determined that all workers shall receive $15 an hour plus tips. But on February 21, 2025, state legislators passed SB 8 (now known as Public Act 1), gutting that hard-won raise.
Our Referendum (Voters to Stop Pay Cuts) gives voters, not politicians, the final say. A successful referendum will:
-
Freeze Public Act 1 (SB 8) immediately once enough signatures are collected
-
Reinstate the wage increases for all workers that were already won
-
Put this issue on the November 2026 ballot so voters can permanently protect Michigan’s living wage
